What I was saying in the earlier thread is that the Saab head unit has no internal amplifiers. Its outputs are line-level, preamp level, or whatever you want to call them. Saab made the somewhat odd choice of running those line-level signals through twisted pair speaker wires. So although the output wires look like speaker wires, they're not speaker level, they're line-level. That's why hooking up the line level outputs on an aftermarket radio to those wires works just fine.
