My '99 SE (LPT 4 cyl.), with 175,000 miles, uses Mobil1 TDT 5W-40 Full Synthetic.
My '04 Aero, with 89,000 miles, uses Liqui Moly Synthoil Premium 5W-40 Full Synthetic.
These cars are operated in Southern California.
Some musings:
1) Over the past five to ten years, I wonder whether Mobil1 0W-40 (European Car Formula) has changed its proprietary formulation (for better or worse). Since it's now heavily discounted in many places, this would seemingly put pressure on Mobil to alter their blend to cut costs.
2) If SAAB Automobile was still in production, I wonder whether their powerplant engineering department would still recommend M1 0W-40 as the penultimate motor oil, as they did five years ago. Synthetic products have continued to evolve.
3) Two independent garages I have recently patronized (one for Saab/Volvo, the other for VW/Audi) both consider Liqui Moly to be a superior product, and use it on all their customer's cars as a matter of practice.
