After my 1999 9-5 wiper motor quits, I determine I'm getting proper voltage to the motor in all wiper stalk positions, so it's the motor gone bad. A junkyard replacement is $50, but an online AutoZone price with 20% discount for a rebuilt motor is only $25 more, but no in-store pick-up. I order and 3 days later I receive at home a Cardone rebuild and I get to work. I'd been looking to get the wiper arms repainted and cowling refinished as well (will post separately). I get the wiper mechanism out and make good note of the position of link arm to motor shaft before I take off the old motor. I put the rebuilt motor in with link arm at the same position, tighten the nut on the splined motor shaft and get the mechanism back into the car. Since the last position was rest when the old motor quit, I put the wipers arms back at approximate level horizontally and tighten them on the splined wiper arm shafts. WIS gives some angular setting for each arm relative to a "cover" (can't figure this out..). No mention of setting position of the link arm attachment to the motor shaft. I turn on the key and try the wiper stalk and the wiper blades sweep down and hit the cowling! I think maybe I've got them positioned wrong on the wiper arm shafts, but then I realize that they are sweeping in the wrong direction from start! A little head scratching and then I decide I'll take out the whole mechanism and re-orient the link arm on the motor shaft to 180% opposite position. All back together and remounting of the wiper arms and they correctly sweep up left and down right (from driver seat view), but now the wiper park position has them move up to the left and stop about 15-20 degrees above horizontal on the windshield. So what's the deal??!! Bad/incomplete Cardone rebuild? I've even got a crazy thought that the rebuild motor came from a right hand drive car?? WIS has no guidance on this oddity. ANY SAABNET HELP APPRECIATED!!
