While I agree that Wells/SEM from Advance is the better way to go, and I have heard the same criticsms of ProParts, I'd be careful with such a broad generalization as "they will throw codes for days before they strand you."
I've experienced DIC failure twice in my Saab career. Once was many years ago with a 93 9000CSE, (4cyl), where it just quit at 70 mph on the NYS Thruway (no CEL), and once was last January with my 2003 9-5 Arc (V6), where it stumbled once or twice, and went straight to the flashing CEL. Both OE DICs were shot, and my nursing it to the shop (about 1 mile) took out the CAT. It was an expensive January.
So my long-winded point is that there are certainly many cases where posters have talked about having codes in advance of failures. I wouldn't bank on it though. Sure wish I had been one of them !
