Had a 9-3 come in on a tow truck last Saturday.
Customer had installed a new IDM from Autozone a few weeks earlier so that was not on top of my list of possible culprits.
Started by looking for codes but none were found. Force ran the fuel pump with my Tech 2 and could hear a faint buzz from the tank and fuel squirting out of the test port so that looked ok. Looked at the RPM signal while cranking and saw 180 rpm which was kind of ok so now what?
Plugged another IDM in and engine fired right up, go figure.
This IDM had the flat black rough surface looking more like a genuine compared to the Propart ones that have more of a gloss black surface but when turning it upside down, it had no sticker or no name whatsoever.
I threw a used one on there that triggered only one code so he could make it home and deal with Autozone at his leisure.
Amazing that this technology is so hard to reverse engineer.
