Throttle Body Questions Posted by Doug W [Email] (#2371) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Doug W) on Tue, 29 Sep 2015 17:48:46 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
We have classic throttle body symptoms with our '04 9-5 Aero: Micro-surging and erratic idle.
I've checked for Trionic codes and got P1231 which is for throttle body out of range. There is no CEL. The symptoms described in the WIS are identical to what we've been experiencing.
The car has slightly more than 155,000 miles on it. I plan on replacing the throttle body. Here are my questions:
1) Should the throttle body be treated as a maintenance item and simply replaced between 150,000 and 200,000 miles since it has parts in it that wear out and can cause driveabiity issues? I consider the fuel pump in this group of parts as it is also a wear item (5 - 6,000 hour typical service life) and when it fails it will leave the driver stranded.
2) Should I purchase a new replacement for $375 or should I get a "rebuild" for $200 less? Are they of the same quality and of similar longevity? I have heard that some owners reported putting in more than two rebuilds before having an acceptable result. We plan on keeping the car at least three more years and likely exceeding 225,000 miles.
Thanks,
Doug
