Thanks for the comment, Stephen ! - Although removing the edge corrosion works for the moment I was still trying to figure out a reasonable scenario for interference. And yes, there is a 'pocket' in the caliper, and the rubbing was off to the edge of that.
The front rotors and pads on this car were both apparently replaced by the PO for sale, so I'll bet they were not the most expensive ones available. The rotors themselves are true and faces are flat. I have a set of pads and rotors waiting - but with snow upon us that will be a Spring task unless there is a real need.
