Akebono brake pads.

Over 6 years ago, I installed Brembo rotors and Akebono Euro 819 pads, close to 47K miles of driving with them now, After they were bed in, I wasn't happy with the braking performance. They just didn't stop like the previous pads (not sure brand as they were on the vehicle when I bought it). Anyway, I'm a careful driver and figured I'd be OK with these pads and have been until now. Driving to work on the highway, a driver just slammed on the brakes to a stop make an illegal merge into stopped traffic. This Guy stopped on a dime. I tried to stop and gave the pedal everything I had and the SAAB wasn't going to stop in time. No skidding, just poor braking. I did a crazy and dangerous avoidance swerve and actually clicked my side mirror with theirs. Bang! Anyway, I looked at my pads today and there is plenty of lining left and the front rotors have very slight wear. I want to restore the SAAB's amazing braking it once had. At this point, I do not care if my rotors get eaten by the pads, like the previous pads did. Any ideas what brand of pad I can install that will provide good "bite"? And can I used my current rotors or should I start all over with everything new? Anyone else have reduced braking performance with Akebono's? A friend at work is using Centric metallic pads on his Acura TL. Says they are very aggressive pads and do the job well.
