Help on P1181 that has progressed to rough idle & P0300 Posted by Mark in Marine [Email] (#1837) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Mark in Marine) on Sat, 12 Dec 2015 16:41:42 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Have been chasing a pesky (but intermittant) P1181 on one daughter's '06. What I did today to try to fix it actually made things worse.
The car has 120K miles. It has a new SAAB DIC, a new MAF, new O2 sensors, and I have replaced all vacuum hoses. Today I tested the brake booster manually (pumped to 20in vacuum, then pressed pedal & released, then pressed pedal and kept it depressed - it passed). I tested the Y-style brake booster hose with two check valves - it passed.
With this as a base, I replaced all the PCV hoses (planning this for a anyway). I started the engine and idle was rougher than before I started; the idle bounced and it eventually threw P0300 for random misfire. As a cross check on the booster and brake vacuum hose, I plugged the engine vacuum pump and manifold fittings and ran the engine again - still rough and erratic. I suspect a major vacuum leak, but I am puzzled by where - I did not replace the PCV collector tank because of time limitation, but I will probably do so tomorrow in case it is the culprit and changing the hoses made it leak more.
Can the J6 O2 sensor junction cause this kind of issue? I have not replaced the manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor. I would appreciate input about what to check next. My go-to independent shop for complicated things closed recently.
Thanks !
