It could be a twice but the ones I have seen fail do nothing. The car won't crank, no locks etc. Have you checked to see what the voltage is at the ecm fuses when cranking.
It is possible that the ignition switch has failed and is not powering or fully powering the +15 circuit when cranking. I have seen this many times. If the voltage is over 10.5v when cranking that is not the issue.
If the voltage is under that everywhere when cranking you may be looking at a battery or battery cable. Another option is that some other control unit on the bus has failed and is crashing the bus. Good Luck, Bernie
