Indeed. As the details and timeline become cleaer the more deplorable this becomes. Appears downright criminal in fact.

Takata is claimed to be the only company making airbags using ammonium nitrate. Basically they have put together a fertilizer bomb with metal shrapnel. Would have at least thought they would have ended up on a terrorist watch list a long time ago. Undoubtedly cheaper I assume leading them to chance the known greater instability even though other manufactures decided no thanks.

Sad thing is the 9-5 used Autoliv AB airbags until 2006 and then again after 2009 apparently.

At least there are not too many SAABs pending. If they get around to making replacements hopefully they just complete the entire production run and be done with it. If we get lucky maybe another company like Autoliv will produce them. They have been using 3rp party companies to supplement production I guess and it sounds like a lot of the Takata might be safer but not necessarily really an appropriate fix and might need to be replaced again.
