I installed the new water pump (HEPU) that replace a 7,000 mile old water pump. Bought the timing kit (which was done 17K ago). The Contitech was different as the upper idler is not adjustable. I installed it and the rear set of cams were off about 1/16 inch from mark. The lower idler did have the cam to adjust the front set of cams. Anyway, maybe I like things too perfect so ended up using one of the old idlers (with 17K miles on it) and adjusted the cam on the roller getting it exact as I could see. I didn't use the marks on the cover but used the toolkit's magnetic insert with marks on it.
Now I am wondering if I should to back in there and install the fixed idler even though it's off a bit?
Thoughts?
