I know I am resurrecting this old thread, but I just tried tarheel's idea of disconnecting the rear door speakers on my '03 Aero w/ 9 speakers, and indeed the soundstage from the front speakers was improved. Note that I did not add or change any other speakers.
However, after a couple of days I noticed I had very little output from my rear parcel shelf speakers, just barely audible muddy bass beats. This even with the fader on full rear.
I reconnected the rear door speakers and now my rear speakers have returned but I will not swear they are as loud or as crisp as before, although this could just be in my mind since I probably never paid so much attention to them. But at least I have some full range sound from them again.
I suppose disconnecting the rear door speakers could have affected the impedance balance (or something like that) at the system level. Tarheel (or anyone else), did you lose rear speakers after doing this mod? Thanks!
