It sounds like you and I are in the same boat. My '05 9-5 has 126,000 miles and I figured it might be time to replace the struts/shocks. I hadn't had any problems and, based on my weak attempt at a bounce test, the front struts were still good.....but boy was I wrong. When I pulled them off they are so far gone that it takes them about 5 seconds to drop with no weight (other than gravity) on them!
I am still getting the car back together so I can't describe the ride changes (hopefully improvement) but I am guessing it'll be pretty significant.
I also wanted a nice ride, that wasn't too sporty with a good price. I thought about the OEMs and also the Koni B12's but decided to go with Bilstein Touring class. According to the description and reviews these were what I wanted :-)
I found them at ShockWarehouse in a front and rear package for $361.30 with free shipping. It took about 2 weeks for them to show up but they have and I'm putting them on over the next few days. I am also replacing the front mounts and bearings just in case.
Good luck!
