IMHO..The majority of auto owners don't have mechanical where with all to personally repair an ageing machine. I wish I did. Other than some general driveway work most repairs are done by a professional. Those professionals familiar with Saab are getting difficult to find. I have only one place reliable to work on my Aero and that's the dealership. I cant justify $100 upfront just to look at the car then add in repair costs for much longer. My region is the king of the salt belt so the car is rotting out from under me.
Many of us need to or will need to separate emotion and passion from a machine and move on. Its unfortunate, I really like my car and it owes me nothing at 253000 miles. No matter how well I maintain it, if something fails ( and it will ) there isn't the Saab infrastructure anymore to get it repaired in a timely manner during a long distant trip. Unfortunately my machine is in need of retirement :( sad
