I replaced the fan controller and blower motor with the help of the many posts and write ups on Saabnet. Thanks to all that took the time.
The blower motor would not go up to full speed in the auto setting. The ACC control unit was replaced last Fall with an new SAAB unit when the temp pixels went crazy.
Since I had it apart I replaced the blower motor as well.
Removal of the wiper arms was the toughest part of the job. I did invest in the Lisle 54150 battery terminal and wiper arm puller. Even with this puller the T handle on the puller bent before the driver's side wiper arm came off. Another puller to consider is OTC 6676 shown on Amazon ([link]https://www.amazon.com/OTC-6676-Heavy-Duty-Windshield-Puller/dp/B004CGRQGE?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B004CGRQGE&linkCode=as2&redirect=true&ref_=as_li_tf_tl&tag=thesaabnetwork[endlink).
I did disconnect the battery.
The blower motor removal was uneventful.
To get at the fan controller which is on the drivers side above the gas pedal I sat on the drivers seat with my legs across the console and my head down by the brake pedal. Once the fan controller cover and screws were removed the fan controller easily pulled out.
To feed the wires I cut the old fan controller wires, taped the new fan controller wires to the old one and pulled it up from the engine compartment into the blower motor area. Reassembled the fan controller cover and screws, gas pedal, etc on the drivers side.
I then cut the fan controller wires from the passenger side in the blower motor housing area and taped the new fan controller wires to the old and fed it thru. The two fan controller connectors mount to to a silver holder above the cabin filter cover. The connectors for the new fan controller would not fit into the holder so I reconnected the connectors and cable tied them in place.
So it can be a one man job.
The plastic cowling below the windshield was badly whitened from using -27 degree windshield washer fluid. In the Spring I tried various products (including Forever Black) to get the black color back. Nothing worked. So I cleaned it up, de glossed it, and painted it with Krylon Dual Superbond spray paint. Looks great we'll see how it holds up. I had good results with this paint on plastic shutters.
Hope this helps someone.
