2003 9-5 Aero Wagon Fastener Question (long) Posted by Alfaron [Email] (#1595) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Alfaron) on Thu, 4 Aug 2016 21:52:40 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I recently took our 9-5 to a shop in Indianapolis to have them fix the air conditioner for the third time after installing new components. When I got home, which is 85 miles from the shop, I noticed the plastic cover that is fitted immediately behind the front lip spoiler, was inside the cargo compartment of the wagon.
I called the shop and was told to bring it in and it would be re-installed, but for me that is a five hour round trip at the minimum plus 170 miles. Instead, I took the car to Walmart to get the tires balanced and rotated along with an oil change. I asked the Walmart employees to install the plastic cover while the oil was being changed. The employee was accommodating but told me that when he attempted to install the plastic cover the fasteners were missing. I've called the shop and informed them of the missing fasteners and was told to bring it in again. That is not really an option unless I have to because of the time and distance. I asked them to see if they had the fasters lying around but they told me to just get some from a local source. I told them that that was not a really good option because I don't know the size or type of fastener and also do not have a lift because the air dam is quite low and would be hard to get to.
So finally the question to the forum: there are eight holes where the fasteners are fitted in the plastic cover. Does anyone know the type and dimensions of fasteners that are used?
ALSO, I live about halfway between Indianapolis and Louisville. My longtime Saab mechanic died last year and I have tried five different mechanics since then with varying results. The shop that left off the plastic cover (along with 3 visits to fix the a/c) does appear to have a mechanic who can diagnose and fix old SAABs but the shop to my mind is very expensive relative to other mechanics that I engaged, e.g., the shop told me that #2 injector was failing and wanted to charge me $1342.00 for replacing four injectors. I have declined it so far. The car runs fine but does have a perpetually lighted CEL.
Does anyone have a suggestion for a mechanic in southern Indiana? This is really getting old. I know the world is not perfect and neither am I so I really shouldn't complain. However, with my old Saab mechanic, it was usually one visit and the problem was fixed.
CAN ANYONE HELP?
THANKS.
