The battery light does that -- it can be dim or bright.
Lit in any form is usually an indication that the alternator is not keeping up with the power needs of the car and the battery is discharging to some degree.
Have the battery and charging system checked, and also look to see if the serpentine belt is slipping or not in good shape.
Finally, check the positive battery cable. If it is heavily corroded internally (a not uncommon issue at your car's age) the alternator struggles to recharge the battery efficiently, and can cause this indication.
