Yea that's cool, doing whatever needs to be done on your cars we do the same thing, changed the starter on the wife's Honda Civic three weeks ago simple job shoulda' been became a nightmare can't access it. back of the motor , can't see, visualize, work by feel only, 3,4-foot extensions, wobble sockets etc. Saabs' much easier ! still saved hundreds doing it myself, more $ to spend on the Saab's ! my rationalization! gotta' exercise the snap-on tools regularly eh? Besides, the pride of doing it yourself...... because we can! I appreciate the idea of having a special model(s) Saab "collector car " and do -( 02' Viggen cv) now that we acquired our 01' 9-5 I see why owners like them - a lot! ours is a $900 eBay auction win we drove fr Florida to AZ! I'll spend a K+ or so and am acquiring used parts as needed, new when a better idea for a specific placement or critical safety part. there are LOTS of folks selling parts now so we're in the sweet spot to acquire real bargains and if you ever were a Saab parts hoarder this is a great time to be alive! I think what we'd like to do is find the ultimate variant of 9-5 (any opinions ? ) optimize it, like you'd do to a 9-3 Viggen, and keep it sweet, perfect .pristine, fixed, fettled, perfectly. Then use this one for the daily driver. I see a lot of folks using up their saabs which is ok, but sad. As far as insurance, I am probably preaching to the choir here, but there is a way to ameliorate, lessen the blow of a total loss" total" when you've shown such loving attention to your Saab (et all ) it's" collector car insurance"! An agreed value policy from a company like haggarty, (et all ) you negotiate w/ the company and the premium depends on the value you desire, agree on. Hell, even the majors write these policies now -ask your agent! Shop around ! NO deductable ! no hassle, they won't cheat you or jerk you around they know these cars, market and it's CHEAPER ! costs LESS than a regular policy! (mine was HALF the cost ! ) there are rules, limitations but easy to comply, live with. regards,
