Hello,
I often start by getting my hand down and pressing up on the lower latch then use a long screwdriver to push down and backwards to get the line off. Yes you can break the oil trap. In addition I usually lubricate the box and the fitting when putting the new one on because it is tight that way too. Good Luck, Bernie
