I have used performance pads in the past.
Have used Akebono pads front and rear on two 9-5 wagons [one has been sold] and do not miss the dust. I have no complaints with the Akebono pad performance at all. Maybe some people feel that there should be little brake petal effort required. I go back and forth with a 2015 BMW 535dx and the brakes are very different but I have no perception of anything lacking in the Saab braking performance.
Climate in Kansas may be a factor in terms of rotor surface. Retired and no reason to drive when the weather is messy.
In any case, if the brakes can trigger ABS action, then braking is up to the the tractive effort of the tires and nothing more can be expected. When hard braking is required a more controlled application rate of braking effort will be less likely to pitch the chassis forward unloading the rear tires. That effect depends on how good your shocks and struts are.
For a given set of shocks, tires and road conditions, maximum braking performance is determined by the tires.
