The bump stops were probably too much in play because the struts were worn.

The NG900's, OG9-3, struts had very little travel and those bump stops took a beating and for some reason those strut mounts would tear and crack. The spring loads transmit trough the springs and bearings, the center of the mounts only sees the loads of the strut shaft plus some rotation flexing. I would have to look at the assemblies again to see where bump stop loads go.
