The bumper behind the fascia is all steel; you could fab up some brackets that pass through the grille openings without needing to cut the plastic. (I always mess up posting pics on Saabnet for some reason)
The roof rack idea is interesting and may actually work better for your application, though, other than wind noise. I don't know much about them, but I see a lot of full width LED light bars on trucks lately, which would be helpful to see and avoid large woodland critters. My son has a couple 3x8" LED lights on his truck, and one on his dirt bike, that put out some impressive light.
