- so if the only 9-5 available were the Aero it would be prohibitively expensive for a lot of people even if the tax free price of the car were lower. In Belgium for example you pay BEF 200,000 (approx. $4,600) to register an Aero - but only half as much to register a 2.3 LPT ...
Similarly, the displacement of the engine decides the taxes in many countries - which explains why the base 9-5 in Europe has a 2.0 litre engine. Interestingly, Ferrari used to make a 2.0 litre turbo engine for the 328 (thus called 208) just for the Italian market - because of the very high taxes in Italy on large displacement engines.
