is this car salvageable? Posted by bobc [Email] (#473) [Profile/Gallery] (more from bobc) on Tue, 27 Feb 2018 18:18:52 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
In my efforts to track down an oil leak (http://www.saabnet.com/tsn/bb/9-5/index.html?bID=275150)
I was idling the car on jackstands, and watching the drips and dribbles. As mentioned I finally found the source of the leak and left the car to idle to confirm.
the car was idling about 15 minutes total, when the "bing bong" sound and low oil pressure light came on. As I walked around to the car to shut it down I heard a subtle knock developing.
Significant to note is that the oil pressure sensor was *just replaced* ... its brand new. I have no doubt that the oil pressure is in fact low. this is not a sensor failure.
what could have caused this sudden loss in oil pressure after 15 minutes? Oil pressure was fine for 15 minutes today (and in fact for at least 20 minutes in a previous oil leak hunting session). The drop in pressure was sudden. What could have happened and how can I fix this?
prime suspect is of course the oil pump. Or perhaps the oil pressure relief valve? I willing to replace these if its likely that this save my car!
any thoughts or theories of what is going on here? and advice on next steps?
