Swedecar's assessment is exactly what has bedeviled my 2004 for 3 or 4 yrs now. Of course it's the driver's side. Works well for a while then flakes out and needs to be recalibrated.
I wrecked my mixing flap motor last summer, didn't want to spend the $120 or so from Eeuro so with the motor removed fixed the flap in the cold position. Eventually found a new motor on ebay for $45 and using that now . IMO doing too many recalibrations puts strain on the moving parts and eventually a weak link will fail.
So I try to leave the temp control at one setting and use the fan speeds in the hope that the mix flap isn't moved much , it seems to make a difference in having to do less recalibations, but as Swedecar points out it's a very lame issue prone HVAC system.
