yes your car uses canbus communication.
yes it monitors the primary lights, via intervening devices (e.g. the orange relay), and it does not monitor lights like the backup and license plate lights.
the "error free" lights you linked have built in load resistors.
As Steven mentioned some cars (most notably the NG 9-5) benefit by mounting the load resistor away from the socket. I dont know if that is the case with the 9-5. Although I have seen more than my share of burned headlight sockets on 9-5s.
if it were me, I'd opt for a separate load resistor and dump the heat away from the socket and lamp housing.
