Last weekend, I finally reached that magical milestone that many others reached ten years ago! It felt great, and sweet vindication for the blood, sweat, tears (and $$) keeping my '99 SE road-worthy.
On SoCal freeways, the biggest obstacle to reaching that pinnacle is being hit by other drivers. Fortunately, I've avoided that, though the commuting has been white-knuckled at times. For most of my working career, I've lived within 10 miles of my job. Then, the one-way distances started to increase: 45 miles, 85 miles, and currently 60.
Don't think I'll reach 300k in it. It took me 18 years of continuous ownership to get to this point! It probably makes more sense to ride-share long-term, just to claw back some personal daily time. Think I'd like to try some different Saab models (9000, 900, maybe even a 99 Turbo?) for pleasure driving when I scale back my working hours before I call it quits.
Congratulations to all who have reached this mark before, and encouragement to those who are closing in. Couldn't have done it without the knowledge and support of many members on this board, plus the superb mechanical work by Anders (Swedecar) and Robert (2 Guys from Sweden).
