Re: Definitive Diagnosis for Motor Mounts and/or Subframe Bushings? Agree with Saabaab - right mount at yoke will have 'slop' in the metal collar around the stud, but the stud should be firm. Inspection of the left side (driver side in US, under the battery tray) while engine is slightly raised to look at the right side mount will help diagnose that one.
The torque rod style mount left hand side, in front of transmission is only hard because the stock rubber is a sloppy when brand new - some just leave it, some like me replaced it, and others use poly OR fill the gaps with a flexible urethane caulk.
The rear mount is the hardest to diagnose, because if the others are not allowed to deteriorate too badly it will at least look okay. It could be rock hard (as on my 1999 SE) and be functional except for not soaking up vibrations. It could also have the rubber totally split and just sitting in place - you may be able to see this if you look carefully at it while engine is slightly raised. I replaced one like that on a 2006 - rubber totally separated. P.S. - 2006 has a lot more torque than the 2.3lpt from 1999.
Hope this helps.
