FWIW I dont clean my MAF. It's never "looked" dirty in the least on any car. However, I do replace it periodically on the one car on which I run an oiled open air intake.
with the symptoms you report I'd consider cleaning the TB, look for vac leaks, replace the spark plugs, check or replace the boost control valve .... etc.
BTW what Mark suggests makes a lot of sense, and with some data like this I could be convinced to clean it regularly
