USAA totaled my '04 years ago before the bankruptcy at under 75k miles, with what appeared to be fairly minor damage to the front (both Xenons were damages though and the body shop was weary of frame damage). They were generous with the settlement and compensated me for things like almost new tires, tinted windows, and a clear bra, so I certainly have no complaints.
After that, I got collision on my replacement 9-5 because there was still value, but the three other 9-5s I've had since Saab's collapse have been liability only.
The cars just have no value anymore, so I don't see how collision is worth the cost. Here in Colorado, most major dealers won't keep them anymore; they flip right to auction, and dribble down to the small-time used car lots.
Now, I don't drive where there's lots of wildlife, and if I did, I may feel differently. Everyone makes mistakes, but I'm willing to gamble on my own defensive driving. Keep in mind that (at least where I live!) if someone else is at fault, then I can make a claim through their insurance company (unless they are uninsured).
