Yes, you have to drop the tank. I drained mine by hooking up a hose to the schrader valve at the fuel rail and activating the pump. I just put the hose into my wife's car and filled her tank. I don't know that the insert is as easy to do on Post 06's vs before. You may just want to get a better pump as it will have a better fuel level sender as well. (I would think given pro parts rep.) Oh.. and you absolutely need the special tool to remove the lock ring.
