It depends on how often you drive in snowy conditions and how far. I own a 2000 base model 9-5 that I have used two winters on my 100 mile daily commute. The first winter I had a few very scary experiences with my Saab on the stock tires even though I used my 4x4 on days with bad road conditions.
Last fall I bought 4 steel wheels from the Tire Rack and a set of Nokian Hakka Q's as snow tires. Unbelieveable traction in the snow and on ice! The total price of this package was approximately the same as the deductable on my auto insurance policy. Felt spending the money for additional safety made more sense than spending it at a body shop when the inevitable happened. Even though I consider my self to be a very good driver, there are idiots on the roads in bad conditions who will take you out with them.
Nokian does make a high performance all weather tire (summer and winter) that has received praise in tests. Unfortunately it is only H-rated (130MPH?) and I would not recommend using it on an Aero.
