different washers, different plugs Posted by Snowmobile [Email] (#686) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Snowmobile) on Mon, 31 Dec 2018 17:20:46 In Reply to: There's a new style washer..., Jeremy R., Fri, 28 Dec 2018 13:54:42 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
There are a variety of plugs and washers available that will work. I use copper washers on the 9-5's with the stock plugs. I use the rubber rim steel ones on my c900's with a slightly different drain plug.
Some of the drain plugs are such that the steel/rubber one will seize to the drain plug. Eeuroparts carries both washers and several replacement drain plugs including a magnetic one, but notes that the steel/rubber washers are not compatible with some. The copper ones afaik are compatible with all.
I use the steel rubber ones 2x once on one side, then flip and use the other. The rubber facing out does not seem to get crushed.
Copper washers I generally don't reuse, but I have a stack of used ones, intending to anneal, or reuse if in a pinch. But they are so cheap and I've got a bag of them so never bothered... I did not realize these were superseded, but mine were not Saab branded or anything (grp or something iirc)
