The oil gallery goes straight to the oil sump. I would suggest a test to see if the bit is blocking the oil flow. Take about a half a cup of oil and pour it down an oil gallery similar to one you lost your bit in. Time how long it takes for oil to empty, Now do the same for the gallery with the lost bit. If the times are similar, your bit has made its way to the oil sump. If not, the bit is lodged in the passage.
If the bit is in the oil sump, you can: 1) leave it there; 2) try to remove it through the drain plug hole a with a magnet, a pick-up tool (grabber), or coat hanger; 3) pull the oil pan and look for the bit.
If the bit is stuck in the gallery, you can try to dislodge it, sending it to the sump. Once that happens, see the previous paragraph. You can try the magnet thing again, but because the block is iron, the rod or wire attached has to be stiff. You could just try to live with a slightly blocked oil passage as the camshaft blow-by isn't quite as much a main bearing. The oil could migrate to the unblocked galleries without too much oil stuck in the head.
If you have one of those fiber optic video things, now might be a time to try it out.
