I used essentially a homemade version of the rose bush tool to replace my bushings, although the removal was more complicated. I pressed out the rubber center sections with a pair of sockets (one to press and one to receive), a threaded rod, and some large washers and nuts, and then used a hacksaw to saw through the outer metal shell of the bushing. Once that was sawed through, a few blows from a cold chisel and a hammer knocked them out. To press the new bushings in, I used a different pair of sockets, and pressed them right in, with a lot of dishwasher detergent as a lubricant.
One fun fact is that if you use Lemforder aftermarket bushings, the ones with gaps that are typically used in the front and center positions have a metal shell with completely straight sides that makes them extremely difficult to press in the front position, because you can't see when they're going in straight. The solid bushings that they sell for the back have a slightly tapered top on the metal shell, so they'll guide themselves in somewhat. I ruined quite a few bushings on the front before using the rear-style. They went in the first time on both subframes I recently replaced the bushings on.
