I’d start with the battery, especially if it’s more than a couple years old. Easy and relatively inexpensive to do.
Do a voltage drop test and that will tell you for certain about the cable. My car is a 2003 with 282k miles on it. I replaced the positive cable (after it tested bad) after I had an extended period of long slower cranks especially after starting the car when doing short-trip errands. The battery wasn’t recharging efficiently on the short trips.
If this issue appeared suddenly, I would not suspect the cable as primary cause, as it deteriorates as it corrodes over time. Not a catastrophic failure
