Tools to crack-open the ATF Fill Plug the First Time Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Sun, 28 Apr 2019 17:24:22 In Reply to: Re: ATF Drain & Re-Fill and new Fill Plug too, 05aero5speed [Profile/Gallery] , Sun, 28 Apr 2019 17:03:32 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
This plug can be a real bugger to loosen the first time. I used the following assemblage of socket wrench components to crack it open the first time. After that, the secret is to never tighten the plug too severely.
T55 Bit for 3/8 socket wrench
1-inch long 3/8's wobble extension (part of a Harbor Freight Kit)
24-inch long 3/8's socket extension (also from Harbor Freight)
1/2 x 3/8 socket adapter
Long handle 1/2-inch socket wrench
Lean into this assemblage REAL HARD to keep the bit from popping out of the plug recess while turning the socket wrench. Just long enough to break the plug loose, after the first time removing the plug is relatively easy and a standard length 3/8 socket wrench will be more than enough.
