I have a pair of 2004 9-5 Aero Sedans. They have had the Continental DWS tires, both ExtremeContact and PureContact for several hundred thousand very happy miles. But, after a recent rash of tread separations, bubbles and blow outs, I chose to change to the Nokian enTyre 2.0, mostly because of the purported resistance to hydroplaning and positive reviews in Consumer Reports. So when I saw that eEuro had them for an amazing price, I ordered four. When FedEx dropped them off, I took them straight to my tire guy. To me, they looked okay, but my tire guy said that not a single one of them was round. He was able to balance them, mostly, but they all had a pronounced hop to their radius. I drove home on them and they definitely had a subtle, but impossible to ignore, hop.
So I contacted eEuro, and their exact response was "What do you want to do?".
Send them back for a full refund? Maybe with an apology?
"They have to be new and unused".
Oh well.
So, almost a year later, they have gotten smoother. And they aren't the worst tire I ever had. And they do work really well in the rain.
But, they are not round. Which seems like it might be important.
So when it was time for the other car to get new tires, we chose the Goodyear Eagle Sport A/S. And did not buy them from eEuro.
These Goodyears have easily been the best tires yet. Smooth, grippy and quiet, they seem like the perfect match for these cars. Not quite as resistant to hydroplaning as the Nokians, but superior to the Continentals, and better than both in every other regard. Plus, as a bonus, they are round.
And now, 20,000 miles later, they look to be on pace to outlast the Continental DWS tires by a wide margin.
Nokians and now
