The engine is, by nature, a little harsh and there is no getting around it. However there are a few items that can improve matters.
- engine and transmission mounts. Replace them all.
- sub-frame mounts. At 140k they are prob shot as well. use OEM.
- note that polyurethane subframe mounts will make it worse.
- non-oem mounts will not last as long.
- counter balancer. The engine has a chain driven counter balancer.
- Some folks cut the chain (for more power, preventative maintenance, etc)
- sometimes the chain breaks. If it does not take out the timing chain when it breaks, the engine will instantly become more harsh. (if it does take out the timing chain when it breaks the engine will become instantly quiet and vibration free :-) )
- idler pulley. some folks have deleted the small idler pulley in the serpentine belt circuit. Reasoning is that the small idler is problematic and when it fails it will leave you stranded. However some have suggested that the shorter serp belt results in more vibratino. that the longer belt add some dampening.
- harmonic balancer. This will deteriorate over time and will cause more harshness as it degrades.
btw the oil light at idle is a legit concern. If I may play devils advocate:
- if the oil light is indeed "only a sensor issue" why didnt the guy, who has put so much $$ into his vanity project, bother to replace the $40 sensor? Seems to me that its easier to replace it (40 minutes?) than is it to explain it away.
