There is no sensor that senses vacuum. Vacuum operates lots of systems and is very important in the operation of the turbo and inlet system. You will get a CEL from some of these systems.
You should replace EVERY vacuum line with silicon line and get rid of all the rubber vacuum hoses.
Yes you are living on borrowed time on that coolant by-pass valve. Time to get rid of it and put in the new heater hoses that do away with this useless, troublesome valve.
Have you really had 60 9-5 Aero sport combis???
