Store won't sell me the tires I want Posted by MI-Roger [Email] (#882) [Profile/Gallery] (more from MI-Roger) on Thu, 3 Oct 2019 15:29:21 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I want to buy winter tires for my 9-5. Current snow tires are P205/60R16 with a T speed rating. I want to replace these with identical sized tires. (I know the recommended size is P215/55R16 but the size delta is minor while the price delta favors the 205 by over 50%, $72/tire versus $122/tire!)
The local Discout Tire store says they won't sell them to me because the Load Rating is too low for my 9-5, a 92 versus their database which says 94 or higher is mandatory. The difference between a 92 tire and a 94 tire is less than 100 pounds safe load carrying capacity. This car is used primarily as single occupant commuter vehicle, and snow tires are NOT for high performance/speed driving where they are subject to major loading on corners.
Discount Tire will not sell any tires until you input the car information. I couldn't even order them on-line, I tried that first.
Grrrr. Since the old tires are on spare rims maybe I will just drop them off for like size replacement. But no guarantee that will work either.
I wonder what 16-inch snow tire is recommended for my Viggen?
