Normally I'd see it the way you do but there is more involved in the load rating than just the 100 lbs delta, I believe load rating is another category that manufactures self rate, so some mfgs are more credible in their ratings, where a good many probably are not and Discount Tire doesn't want to risk any liability by selling a tire with lesser rating than the car mfg specs.

And I once put Pirelli's with a lesser load rating on a Saab and 2 of the tires did develop sidewall bulges - likely not owing to the weight itself but the forces put on the sidewall with aggressive cornering.

I always buy my tires from Discount Tire - the store is 1/4 mile from me, but I always search the web 1st for the lowest price on a tire then take it to Discount Tire and they always price match, in fact several times beating the lowest price I found on the web.
