Hi guys,
I have a '03 9-5 Linear with 191k miles. Just spent $400 bucks putting in a new ball joint - they had to put in a new knuckle cause of a rusted bolts etc etc. The car has some small rust on the fuel tank and the bottom of the passenger door.
Why am I in decision time? It is leaking at the rear main seal and also as the seal near the passenger side. If I go for the repair they indicated it would be time to put in a new clutch. And I could go for the subframe bushings. There is a small leak in the flex pipe. They said it would cost about $1500 P&L.
If I went forward, I'd probably need new brakes and rotors pretty soon and the windshield is cracked (I can live with normal maintenance). There is a bit of leaky oil near the front of the engine - but I'm not sure what that is and they aren't either (said I have to wash it down) - but not a major leak.
A lot of other stuff has been done in the last 60k (new alternator, starter, turbo, radiator). However, the car lives in a rust area and one mechanic said a while back some of the oil lines are vulnerable. The experience with $400 to put in a ball joint because of rusted bolts suggests repairs are going to get expensive from here on out. The water pump hasn't been repaired ever.
I'm leaning to fixing it, but wondering what surprises I could be in for - especially engine related. I looked up other 9-5s I'd be interested in within driving distance and nothing comes up that is of interest (i.e. around 100-120k miles)
If I do go for these repairs - ANYTHING ELSE to CHANGE out while doing the seals and the clutch?
