I just replaced the 'silencer" middle on my 9-5 and things I ran into are documented in an earlier thread. I ended up getting a 'starla - walker' from carid. Both names were embossed on the silencer.
The part seemed almost identical to the original and fitment was perfect. Mated nicely with existing rear muffler. Exhaust sound with new silencer was identical to OEM system.
Will see how long it lasts - others who live in a wintry climate indicated ~6 yrs. Time will tell.
I don't have any specific mfg recommendations for the muffler. If you look at my earlier post/replies, not clear who makes what anymore. My personal opinion on exhaust items, its a crap shoot and it is really not clear who makes it.
One place I called about the silencer identified the part as genuine saab on their website but had a picture that didn't look like the oem part and had 'Orio' watermark across the picture. When I inquired, was told "We cant get genuine saab anymore. We were getting them from Canada but their source ran out and they were getting substitutes from Orio" You have to be careful.
My experience in looking for parts, be sure to call the supplier before you order. I ran into one case where despite a comprehensive saab web site, when I spoke to a person they indicated that they have not been selling saab parts since Aug 2019. They said they have been trying to have the website removed but have been unsuccessful. I cant remember the place at the moment.
Muffler delamination - yea, mine did that about 2 yrs ago. If that is the outer casing, the muffler should be OK for quite a while. mine is still fine.
