My '01 Aero has a stage 2 tune, and my '00 Aero has stage1. My son used OpenSID to tune it so it basically was free.
Brew City Boost does it for $250: https://www.brewcityboost.com/product/ecu-upgrade-t7-95-3/
and genuinesaab sells BSR tuned ecus for $585 https://genuinesaab.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=47_72
I am not familiar with Mike D. but looks like he does it for $250 as well https://mikedtuning.com/#!/pricing-tuning-requirements/
In all cases you'll need to have the ECU loaded with your VIN and immobilizer code. I believe that all of these tuners will ask for that ... or will need your existing ECU.
Stage 1 can be done with no hardware
Stage 2 requires an intake upgrade (e.g cold are intake like K&N). Some require an exhaust upgrade as well. I happen to have a 3" sport exhaust (remus) on my stge 2
Stage 3 requires a numer of mods including a 3" downpipe.
Stage n ... dont know!
A tune on this cars is really fun. The Aero is not slouch in stock form but with a tune it feels quite a bit more potent.
You asked about a fair price ... I'd say that $250 is a bargain for 20 hp. But as others mentioned you can't just buy an ECU and drop it, it has to be set up to match your car.
