Thanks for posting your observation !
This matches what I saw on the Mitsubishi starter I replaced on my daughter's '06 wagon back around Thanksgiving. The starter was questionable after new battery and a no-crank starting problem. I noticed the starter pinion bearing seemed really sloppy, but I didn't make the connection with slow cranking - it makes sense that it would create a lot of extra friction and load down the starter.
My second daughter's 9-5 (approaching the same mileage) has its original Mitsubshi starter, and I will check it when the weather warms up. I'm already watching an oil leak on her car, and the starter will come out to replace the oil pressure sensor and slip in a new O-ring between the PCV trap and block.
