I share your concerns - what I perceive has happened with this and many parts available today is that the distinction between OE, OEM, and fully "aftermarket" O-rings (and many parts) has been blurred to the point that some parts are almost impossible to vet. Especially for our 'orphaned' SAAB's, the vendor(s) for "OE" parts has changed, and perhaps more than once. I am pretty sure that the original (really original) O-rings for the water pumps had to be of better quality for their purpose than what is commonly sold now.
I plan to change out the oil pump O-rings this summer for the two SAAB 9-5's I maintain, based upon time and mileage - and since one daughter will be moving out-of-state this summer.
I know I didn't really answer your question, but I have purchased several O-rings from McMaster Carr (for water pump and PCV trap), hoping to get a more appropriate and longer-lived replacement for specific purposes. I haven't tried that with the Oil Pump O-ring yet.
