Mark I always appreciate your considered replies. Thanks.
Well it turns out I have successfully found an "original" o-ring at a former Saab dealer here in my area after all. Their normal Saab inventory status means they are not high on my consideration list any more, but lucky me this time! Especially after waiting a week for the WRONG ones to arrive. This is good news.
Anyway, I also did not think of the McMaster Carr alternative for this job. I had tried them on a water pump after your writing up your experiment. (By the way, I hope yours is still going well but mine has not. I am getting the weeping at the o-ring. Fortunately it is slow however.)
I take your point on the "original (really original)" water pump o-rings being better than now. That makes sense given the experiences it seems we are all having.
So onto this job now. Wish me luck. Not sure how the re-torquing will go. Found a couple of good videos that I will use as encouragement.
After this is a throttle body replacement and then a timing chain replacement but I think that one will have to be a Swedecar job. Not for me.
Thanks again.
