Engine Coming Out -- Address It Now Items Posted by Zod [Email] (#2669) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Zod) on Mon, 20 Apr 2020 14:56:43 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
First post here.
My 9-5 Aero purchased with 153k has a moderately irritating rattling noise diagnosed from a SAAB indy as a loose balance shaft chain tensioner. This morphed from timing chain tensioner > timing chain loose> balance shaft with the end result requiring engine removal. I plan to have the balance shaft chain deleted and kit (genuinesaab sells it) installed as well as the timing chain/components, although I'm getting some resistance from them to delete it (not sure why yet).
There are a couple of things I know of requiring attention besides above:
Engine manifold gasket (none of the studs are broken -- yet)
Subframe bushings (all 6)
Oil pressure switch (its leaking)
Rear engine mount (others were already replace in-situ)
I've already replaced the water pump and all the pulley components (even the A/c bearing), harmonic balancer, crank shaft oil seals, and appears the alternator is a bosch replacement done a short time ago. The A/c was also R&R maybe 3 yrs back.
I'm assuming very little labor is involved replacing the bushings and gasket while engine is out in comparison? Any idea what the time saving is in case I get pushback from mechanic?
Any other items that could be a tremendous cost savings while engine is out?
Haven't started anything (major) yet but the fun is about to begin!
As is looking at a $1800-2k job.
